چکیده

Comparison of Average Heart Rates Determined by Surface ECG and 24-Hour Ambulatory ECG (Holter) in Dogs with Spontaneous Atrial Fibrillation. (December 2010) Adriana Lucía Perea Lugo, B.S., Autonomous University of Zacatecas Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Theresa W. Fossum The purpose of this study was to compare the heart rates of dogs presenting with spontaneous atrial fibrillation (AF) by a surface electrocardiogram (ECG) and a 24 hour ambulatory ECG (Holter recording) in order to determine if there was a difference between these two diagnostic tests. Seven dogs with clinically stable, spontaneous AF were evaluated with a 6 lead surface ECG (MAC 5000, GE® Milwaukee) and a Holter monitor (Monitor device: LifecardCE Delmar Reynolds Medical, Holter analysis:Aria Holter software). Statistical analyses, including t-tests and linear regression models, were performed using Stata® data-analysis and statistical software. When heart rates (bpm) determined by both diagnostic testing methods were compared individually and among all of the dogs, no statistically significant differences were found. Complete data for analysis were available in 4 of the 7 dogs. This study demonstrates that despite the potential superiority of Holter monitoring relative to the surface ECG for the diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias, average heart rates were not statistically different in these 4 dogs with controlled AF. Therefore, the average HR

Usefulness of ambulatory 7-day ECG monitoring for the detection of atrial fibrillation and flutter after acute stroke and transient ischemic attack.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Although atrial fibrillation is the most frequent cause of cardioembolic stroke, this arrhythmia remains underdiagnosed, as it is often asymptomatic or intermittent and, thus, may not be detected on standard 12-lead ECG or even 24-hour ECG recording (Holter). In this study, we hypothesized that 7-day ambulatory ECG monitoring using an event-loop recording (ELR) device wou...

Continuous stroke unit electrocardiographic monitoring versus 24-hour Holter electrocardiography for detection of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation after stroke.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cardioembolism in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (pxAF) is a frequent cause of ischemic stroke. Sensitive detection of pxAF after stroke is crucial for adequate secondary stroke prevention; the optimal diagnostic modality to detect pxAF on stroke units is unknown. We compared 24-hour Holter electrocardiography (ECG) with continuous stroke unit ECG monitoring (CEM) for pxA...

Response to letter regarding article, "Embolic stroke of undetermined source in the athens stroke registry: a descriptive analysis".

As it is mentioned in our article, 142 (51.6%) patients with Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source (ESUS) had a 24-hour ambulatory Holter monitoring, whereas 195 (70.9%) ESUS patients had continuous electrocardiographic (ECG) monitoring for 1 week or until discharge from the stroke unit. For the latter patients, continuous ECG monitoring was observed by the trained nurse personnel of the acute ...

Methods for Ambulatory Arrhythmia Monitoring A Comparison Study of Holter Monitor and Chest Strap ECG A Prospective Pilot Study

Background Cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation (AF), are a common cause for seeking medical care. AF has many causes; where valvular disease, hypertension, heart failure and diabetes mellitus are among the most common ones. The golden standard for arrhythmia monitoring is a 24or 48-hours Holter monitor. The aim with this paper was to compare the Holter monitor with chest strap EC...

Improved detection of silent atrial fibrillation using 72-hour Holter ECG in patients with ischemic stroke: a prospective multicenter cohort study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Adequate diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AF), including paroxysmal AF, is an important part of stroke workup. Prolonged ECG monitoring may improve the detection of paroxysmal, previously undiagnosed AF (unknown AF). Therefore, we evaluated systematic 72-hour Holter ECG monitoring to detect unknown AF for the workup of patients with stroke. METHODS Unselected survivors...
